Cascade Update- June 14 , 2024Happy last week of school! We have had a great school year and have seen incredible growth in all of our students. Some of our highlights from the 23-24 school year include:
-Leadership students have started volunteering weekly at the Auburn Food Bank.
-The Cascade Football and Boys Varsity Basketball teams played in the Championship games.
-Cascade has been selected as an AVID showcase school next year! This recognition highlights all the hard work our staff and students have done to practice college and career readiness skills. Next year, we will host a showcase visit for schools around the region who want to learn more about AVID.
-STEM Club completed construction of a seaworthy underwater ROV and explored Puget Sound looking for undersea life.
-We have hosted a variety of family events, including: Hispanic Heritage Night, Two AVID Family Nights, ML Night, Authors Showcase, Black History Celebration, Night at the Museum, AAPI Craft Night, CTE Crosstown Showdown, and Multicultural Night.
-Nearly 50 8th graders traveled to Mt. Rainier for 4 days and learned science and life skills in an outdoor environment.
-Our Yearbook staff has overcome obstacles, conquered challenges and come together to produce an amazing book. Way to go Yearbook Staff!
-Mechatronics students and STEM club members built, launched, and tracked their weather balloon satellite project to a record altitude of over 113,000 feet.
-Our AVID elective students visited 9 colleges, including The University of Washington, Clover Park Technical College and Pacific Lutheran University. 75% of our AVID elective students maintained a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
-6th grader Medina H. was selected be her peers to be honored with a Kids Day Salute by the City of Auburn. Medina will be recognized with students across the district at Kids Day on June 15.

-35 Cascade Spartans are going to continue to be AVID scholars in high school.
-Our 8th grade science students were mentioned by the Environmental Science Center as stand out students not only in their behavior and respect during our Mary Olson Farm trips, but also in their knowledge of salmon, their habitat and the needs that salmon have at the various stages of their lives. ParentSquare lets families choose how they want to receive messages and designate their preferred language. The district has been testing the new system at multiple schools and the results have been great! We look forward to using this new tool at all schools in August.

Season 2 Sports Recap: Congratulations to ALL of our second season athletes! There was lots of excitement during winter sports. Our girls' gymnastics team came up just short in defending their 22-23 League Championship. Our varsity boys' basketball team also played for a league championship. Our girls' soccer as well as our JV and C team boys basketball teams represented us well on the field and court.
From Coach Moody- This year's girls soccer season was a year of determination and growth. We secured some victories and a tie this season through our great teamwork and effort on the field. Our players always gave their best effort every game despite the crazy winter weather we had this season!
From Coach Smith- The Boys basketball 2023/24 season was a success. We had five teams in total, three c-teams, JV and varsity and while the record may not agree with my successful season assessment, we were able to improve. From the first day of practice, our goal was to get better every day and we achieved this on all teams. I was pleased with the effort every player showed every day.
Our varsity team made it to the championship game and even though we didn’t win, I was still proud of our players because they played hard every minute of the game. I’m excited for the next season and for our continued growth.
Upcoming Events- We have lots of fun evening events planned for the second half of the year! Mark your calendars!
